Orillia Folk Society General Meeting

As announced at our April concert, we're planning a General Meeting for the Orillia Folk Society on Sunday, May 25 at 2:00 pm. This will take place at 210 Mary St. (1 block north of Mississauga, about halfway between West and Westmount Streets).

This Meeting is open to everyone interested in the Society, and is your chance to give us some input on the Society's direction, and help us make it work even better for everyone. An RSVP is not mandatory, but it would certainly be appreciated, so we know if there are enough chairs! As always, you can contact Alyssa via orilliafolk@takenotepromotion.com or 259-0157.

We're open to any ideas you folks have, and have a few ideas we'd like to bounce around as well. To start those thoughts a-flowing: In regards to ticket sales, we're considering implementing a "season's ticket" option, and would like to know if that's an attractive proposition -- and what sort of pricing would make such an endeavour worthwhile? We seem to have stopped bothering with membership fees -- has anybody noticed? does anybody care? Advance ticket discounts have also flown out the window -- should we bring them back? How would advance reservations for the Bistro dinners go over with people? If we increased the price a smidgen in order to offer more varied fare, would people still consider it a good deal? How can we better support local artists? How can we become more involved with the community? How can we get more people involved with the organization, and what sort of hidden talents are out there just waiting to be tapped? Is anyone just dying to offer up their living room for a house concert? What have you always wanted to know about the Folk Society but were afraid to ask? What kind of music do you wish we'd present more often?

The Orillia Folk Society is a completely volunteer-run organization that currently receives no outside funding. Our strength lies in our volunteers and our audience -- so we'd like to make sure we're keeping both groups happy! Criticisms and kudos are all welcome. :-)

If you are not able to make it to the meeting, but have some issues you'd like to raise and/or have discussed, please send them along or give a call ahead of time (do specify if you'd like these comments to remain anonymous), and we'll bring them up on your behalf.

On behalf of all of us behind the scenes, I'd like to thank you all for your support of the OFS and FridayFolk this year. We'll do our best to make sure you continue to enjoy all the Society has to offer, supporting our community's artists and bringing fabulous artists to our community.

Musically yours,
Alyssa
