“If anybody embodied the beauty and honesty of roots music, it’s Rob Lutes. His set was a naked flame set to torch the place.” [Maverick (UK)]

“Rob Lutes will soon be counted amongst the ranks of the best in the industry. Insightful and meaty like Bill Morrissey, [Garnet] Rogers and Lucy Kaplansky, he is also gutty and gritty like Greg Brown or Chris Smither. A rare talent that keeps getting better with each project released, one listen will prove he is more than a passing fancy; this guy is here to stay.” [Matt Large, Montreal Folk Festival artistic director]

A writer whose contracts have included gigs as a regular contributor to Readers Digest, DIY expert, travel writer and speech writer to a former Prime Minister; a sometime tree planter who fell in love with the tray-green expanses of northern Ontario; a Maritimer from the forgotten province, New Brunswick, who grew up on the water with five siblings; Rob Lutes has always known his own true calling and spiritual home was songwriting. Since the release of his first album Gravity in 2000, he has steadily built an exquisite collection of moving, literate songs that inhabit the intersection of blues, folk and Americana. A masterful finger style guitarist with a soulful voice, he has also built a strong reputation as a performer of note. A long-time Montréal resident who originally hails from Rothesay, NB, Rob is a former Kerrville New Folk and International Songwriting Competition winner and a Maple Blues, CFMA and Lys Blues nominee. Lutes has released six full-length albums, including 2009’s widely acclaimed Truth & Fiction, which earned him a CFMA nomination for songwriter of the year, and 2013’s The Bravest Birds which spent seven months in the Roots Music Report top 10.
